The KRIS Smilecare Story
The KRIS SmileCare Project was born out of the vision and compassion of Dr. Faith Victoriano, DMD.
In 2015, Dr. Faith joined a mission trip to the Philippines as a volunteer dentist. The overwhelming number of tooth extractions she performed throughout the trip weighed heavily on her spirit. With a heart for preventive dentistry, she resolved to focus not only on treatment but on education and prevention.
Two years later, in 2017, she joined the KRIS Foundation’s Lift Up the Orphans (LUTO) mission trip and organized an Oral Hygiene Education Session for elementary students at a low-income school. What began as a simple outreach project soon grew into a movement.
In 2019, the project expanded to Cansilayan Elementary School, where oral hygiene training emphasized proper tooth brushing, healthy nutrition (less sugar), and regular dental checkups. The principal and teachers embraced the program wholeheartedly. Together, they launched creative initiatives such as Happy Smile Monday—a monthly contest rewarding the class with the highest participation—and an annual engaging poster contest illustrating healthy dental habits.
The results were remarkable: student absences dropped significantly due to fewer dental-related illnesses. Inspired by this success, the KRIS SmileCare Project expanded to two more schools, proving that preventive education can transform children’s health and well-being.
Today, plans are underway to bring SmileCare to even more schools in the area. By building partnerships with committed individuals and organizations, the project is poised to make a lasting impact in improving dental health and brightening the smiles of countless children.
